San Caluma

SAN CALUMA.

“A small South American country” whose “populace is left in miserable circumstances” when the nation is “ravaged by earthquake and tornado” in September 1940. In the United States, an effort is swiftly organized to dispatch boatloads of relief supplies to the stricken country, but a mysterious mastermind named Mumsen is determined to sabotage the relief effort so that he can pervert San Caluma’s misfortune into an opportunity to become its dictator: “.. . None of that food .. . must be distributed! When the country is at my feet, I shall distribute food.. . but only if the citizens permit me to take over the government!” Superman, however, speeds the relief supplies to San Caluma on schedule, and Mumsen is killed when he deliberately detonates an explosion designed to kill both himself and the Man of Steel (S No. 6/3 "Mission To San Caluma!").
