The unscrupulous publisher of the Daily Tatter, a Metropolis newspaper whose circulation has been soaring at the expense of the Daily Planet's because its reporters have been resorting to illegal acts in order to create their own news stories, such as when Tatter reporter Ned Gerritty blows up the dam at Ashton Reservoir for the purpose of creating an exclusive news story. Certain that the Tatter is guilty of criminal conduct but unable to accumulate hard evidence, Superman finally enlists the aid of boy genius Euclid Smith, “child prodigy and star of the Kid Wizards Show”, in a convoluted but ultimately successful ruse designed to entice Fenton and Gerritty into attempting to murder Euclid so that Superman can catch them in the act and take them into custody (WF No. 58, May/Jun 1952: “Scoop’ Smith, Boy Reporter!”) (TGSB).
