The Syndicate of Five

The five gangland lieutenants of Metropolis "crime boss" Turk Kane who, having brutally murdered their leader in order to seize control of his underworld empire, attempt to capitalize on Superman's appearance on a charity telethon --a so-called "super-telethon," in which Superman performs requested super-feats in return for contributions to Worldwide Charities --by submitting a series of super-feat requests designed to help them locate the hiding place of their slain leader's reputed $10,000,000 treasure trove. Superman apprehends the Syndicate of Five in May 1953, and successfully raises his goal of $100,000,000 for Wordwide Charities (Act No.180: "The Super-Telethon").
