Sagdorf

The monocled commander of a “secret base”—nestled in a secluded valley somewhere in the United States and equipped with a munitions plant, a fleet of bomber aircraft, and an army of well- disciplined troops—whose sinister purpose is to serve as a staging area for an entire “subversive army that can strike terror and destruction from the rear when the military forces of the U.S. are attempting to defend the coast against foreign invasion!” Superman demolishes the secret army base in January- February 1941, systematically destroying its entire store of aircraft and munitions. All that remains, including the evil Sagdorf and every last member of his subversive army, is obliterated when an enemy artillery shell fired at Superman slams into the base munitions plant, detonating an explosion that rocks the secluded valley with a titanic roar (S No. 8/2).
