An unhappy millionaire who, informed by his physician that he is doomed to die of joylessness unless he can manage to enjoy one hearty laugh, promises to donate $100,000 to charity if any man in Metropolis can succeed in making him laugh. Although many try and fail, Superman finally succeeds, but only after he has resolved the long-buried guilt that had made millionaire Crotchett immune to laughter (S No. 56/2, Jan/Feb 1949: "The Man Who Couldn't Laugh!").
