"Dude" Dunn
The leader of a gang of criminals who attempt unsuccessfully to destroy Superman with special "kryptonite guns" designed for them by the evil scientist Lex Luthor, only to be apprehended by the state police in August 1962. Superman's efforts to capture the "Dude" Dunn gang—and, in fact, all of his activities during this period—are severely hampered by the fact that a freak laboratory accident has temporarily rendered him invulnerable to kryptonite and able to pierce lead with his X-ray vision, but only at the cost of transferring his deadly "kryptonite vulnerability," for brief periods and without warning, to such commonplace elements as silver, gold, aluminum, and diamond (Act No. 291: "The New Superman!").
