Big-Noise Nelson
"Big-Noise" Nelson
A sound-effects man at the studios of a nationwide broadcasting network who is noted for his ingenious sound effects and for the unorthodox techniques he utilizes in achieving them. Fired suddenly from his job, however, when some hornets he is using to evoke a fighter-plane attack escape accidentally into the studio audience, Nelson becomes determined to use his talents for evil and, vowing bitterly that “[A]ll of Metropolis will feel the effects of my genius,†commits a series of spectacular sound-effects crimes -- as when he makes people think a museum is collapsing by amplifying the sound of a man chewing carrots -- before he is finally apprehended by Superman in January-February 1953 (S No. 80/2: “The Big Noise of Metropolis!â€).
