Jewel Kryptonite is crystalline material from Krypton's Jewel Mountains (also, see Jax-Ur). While Superman discounts it as unlike other Kryptonite in not directly affecting him (or other surviving Kryptonians) as he hurls a chunk of Jewel Kryptonite into the sun, it does have the power to focus thoughts from residents of the Phantom Zone and explode combustible materials. The accounts are unclear if only Kryptonian Phantom Zone prisoners have the ability to employ this strange elemental crystal in this manner (Act No. 310, Mar 1964: "Secret of Kryptonite Six!"). In the chronicles, Jewel Kryptonite is taken from Krypton's past, and is unaltered by the explosion of Krypton, so it may indeed not be true Kryptonite or have any radioactive properties.
