The meek, self-effacing proprietor of the Pleasure Island amusement park, the descendant of a long line of murderous pirates, including the bloodthirsty Captain Ironfist, who, persuaded by his “overactive imagination†that he has received a visitation from Captain Ironfist’s spirit, converts an amusement park transport vessel into a modern-day pirate ship and, donning the buccaneer regalia of his infamous ancestor, embarks on a blood-chilling career in twentieth-century piracy, until finally, cornered by Superman in November 1942, he loses his grip while scrambling up some rigging and falls to his doom on the deck below (Act No. 54: “The Pirate of Pleasure Islandâ€).
