The Night-Owl

A “renegade scientist” and fiendish “super-criminal”, so named because his thick eyeglasses and oddly tufted white hair combine to give him the appearance of a vicious owl, whose “many darkness experiments,” in addition to enabling him to see in the dark, have led to the development of the diabolical “black light projectors” with which he intends to plunge daytime Metropolis into inky blackness so that his henchmen can carry out the “wholesale pillage” of the city in "the greatest crime coup the world has ever known!”

Headquartered in a torchlit cavern hideaway and guarded by a murderous pet owl whose poison dipped claws inflict instant death, the Night-Owl is nevertheless apprehended by Superman in October 1942 (Act No. 53: “The Man Who Put Out the Sun!"). (TGSB)
