Superman No. 101, Art by Al Plastino

The name given to the ghastly fate that appears to befall anyone who ventures too close to Superman in November 1955. In an effort to flush out a gang of gold thieves and discover the hiding place of their stolen loot, Superman sets in motion an elaborate ruse in which he pretends that, as the result of his recent contact with a bizarre rainbow-ringed fireball in outer space, he has become afflicted with a dreadful power which turns everything in his immediate vicinity, people and as well as objects, into solid glass. When the gold thieves attempt to transfer their cache of stolen gold to a safer location in order to safeguard it against Superman’s "Rainbow Doom," the Man of Steel apprehends them (S No. 101, Nov 1955: "The Rainbow Doom!").
