I thought kryptonite could only affect Super-powered kryptonians?
That was generally the case but not always.
Later the Argo City story was retconned so that the ground beneath them actually turned into Anti-Kryptonite which was Kryptonite that effected non-powered Krytonians but not super-powered Krytonians.
There's also some confusion about a sample of red krpytonite that according to my memory of Superman #300 as well as the entry on the story under the Superman Revenge Squad entry in TGSB was able to shrink Superman even though he was depowered, but in the version of the story on the Superman Through the Ages Site
