Quex-Ul

The Kryptonian scientist sentenced to 25 years in the Phantom Zone by Jor-El.

Using his Zone-O-Phone at the end of 25 years, Superman talks to Quex-Ul in the Zone and, learning his story, releases him on Earth, where the criminal gains the exact same powers as Superman. Determined to have his revenge on "the son of the Justice Council leader who sentenced" him, Quex-Ul engages in a series of battles with the Man of Steel, pausing only to rescue an innocent construction worker. Rigging a trap of Gold Kryptonite, which will erase Superman's powers, Quex-Ul is informed by Supergirl that Superman has proved his innocence in the crime of slaughtering the rare Rondors of Krypton. Overcome with remorse and realizing he was brainwashed into taking the fall for the crime, Quex-Ul exposes himself to the Gold Kryptonite, saving Superman and rendering himself powerless. With no super-powers and no memory of his past life, Quex-Ul is given a job in the Daily Planet's production department under the name Charlie Kweeskill (S No. 157/1, Nov 1962: "The Super-Revenge of the Phantom Zone Prisoner!").
