Superman helps him clear his name and Ak-Var becomes a colleague in Van-Zee's science laboratory (Act No. 336/1, Apr 1966: "The Man from the Phantom Zone!"). Much later, Ak-Var adopts the costumed identity of Flamebird, partnering with Van-Zee's Nighwing to fight crime in Kandor (SF No. 183/5, May/Jun 1977: "Death Is a Computer"; and others).
