The Mole is a criminal mastermind who first makes his reputation by digging out of the prison that holds him. He uses these abilities to rob a series of banks in Gotham City and Metropolis before finally being apprehended by Superman and Batman and Robin (WF No. 80, Jan/Feb 1956: "The Super-Newspaper of Gotham City!").

Later, the Mole abducts Superman and holds him for ransom to the highest-bidding villain beneath the streets of Metropolis. Because of the actions of Lois Lane, the Omega Men, and the detective work of Cave Carson - Superman is able to defeat him once again (Act No. 356, Oct 1982: "Battle Beneath the Earth!").
