Richard "Dick" Grayson

The adopted ward of millionaire socialite Bruce Wayne (Batman) - better known as the Caped Crusader's partner Robin the Boy Wonder.

The teen-aged boy who is secretly Robin, the inseparable crime-fighting companion of Batman. Dick Grayson is the ward of socialite Bruce Wayne, the man who is secretly Batman (S No. 76, May/Jun 1952: "The Mightiest Team in the World"; and others.) (TGSB)

In the 1980s, Grayson outgrew the Robin identity, passing it to Jason Todd.

Grayson then became Nightwing. In the pre-Crisis continuity, Grayson's departure from the mantle of Robin was voluntary; in the post-Crisis version, he was fired by Batman after being shot in the leg (non-fatally) by the Joker. By the end of the 1980s, Jason Todd (whose background varied greatly between the original history and the post-Crisis events) was murdered by the Joker. Superman aided Batman in apprehending the arch-criminal, but shortly thereafter, the Batman fell into an abyss of near-insanity. A young man named Tim Drake, however, helped him back to his normal state and eventually attained the rank of Robin, eventually donning a redesigned costume.

Drake is even more highly regarded in the DC Universe than Grayson was at his age. So much so that in the events of Infinite Crisis, Superman put him in charge of making sure the civilians were all right.
