The “wacky wizard of science” who is the inventor of the “if machine,” an ingenious device whose “radiation can change history by reaching through the past to make things happen differently!” When the “Bullet” Harris gang attempt to steal the machine, they are apprehended by Superman, but a ricocheting bullet strikes the device and damages it beyond any hope of repair (WF No. 38, Jan/Feb 1949: “If There Were No Superman”).
