The lovely photographer who, during the course of her glamorous and exciting career, has been linked romantically with both Bruce Wayne and Batman. From October November 1948 onward, she labors unceasingly to verify her suspicion that Bruce Wayne and Batman are one and the same man. In the words of Batman No. 49/2. “Vicki will climb the highest mountain .. swim the deepest seas...just to get a picture!” (“The Scoop of the Century!”). She is continually risking her life to obtain sensational photographs for View Magazine, and a fellow journalist has observed that “she handles the toughest assignments on the staff!” (Batman No. 50/1, Dec/Jan 1948-1949: “Lights—Camera—-Crime!”). (TGSB)

In November-December 1956, Vicki Vale and Lois Lane become jealous and upset when it appears that both Batman and Superman have fallen in love with Princess Varina, the lovely brown-haired ruler of the “faraway kingdom of Balkania.” In a meddlesome effort to place Princess Varina out of reach of the men they love, Vicki and Lois offer to help the princess elope with the man she really loves, an “officer of [the royal] guards” named Captain Stefan. Batman and Superman are compelled to thwart the elopement for the same reason that they have been so zealously courting the princess, because her marriage to the commoner Stefan would precipitate a civil war in her country, but they manage ultimately to make Stefan a hero in the eyes of his countrymen so that the Balkanian parliament will grant him permission to marry the princess (WF No. 85 “The Super-Rivals!”).

In September 1963, Batman encounters a second Vicki Vale, this one a perfect look-alike for Lois Lane, during a visit to an extradimensional parallel world. (WF No. 136: “The Batman Nobody Remembered!”). (See: Red Raven)
