Drywood Gulch

An uninhabited ghost town in the western United States where, in May 1962, Superman defeats eight escapees from the Phantom Zone—super-powered Kryptonian criminals banished into the Phantom Zone for their "horrible crimes" sometime prior to the destruction of the planet Krypton—who are determined to lure Superman into their midst and then exile him into the Phantom Zone forever by shooting him with special "ray-guns" powered by an ingenious "phantom zone generator." Challenged to a fast-draw ray gun showdown by the eight Kryptonian outlaws in which anyone struck by a ray-blast will be dispatched instantly into the Phantom Zone, Superman triumphs over his adversaries by melting their ray guns with a blast of his awesome heat vision and then using his own ray-weapon to propel them back into the Phantom Zone "where those evil beings belong..." (S No. 153/3: "The Town of Supermen!"). (TGSB)
