The Dude

A ruthless fashion pirate, clad in a top hat and tails, with a mask concealing the upper part of his face, who causes panic and near collapse in the world of haute couture by stealing the latest clothing designs of fashion's top designers and, with the complicity of shady merchants, producing inferior or duplicates of the originals at bargain-basement prices.

The Dude, who is in reality Joseph Martinson, the chairperson of the Designer's Emergency Committee, an organization of top designers formed, ironically, for the very purpose of combating the Dude. He is unmasked, exposed, and apprehended by Superman in July-August 1943 (S No. 23/3: "Fashions in Crime!"). (TGSB)
