Instead of "replacing" researched entries with plagiarism of TGSB, I suggest adding TGSB text if something is missing. I spent a lot of time over many hundreds of original entries here and don't think that copies of someone else's copyright text is always an improvement. Case in point, this entry, where my entry had more details.

I don't know, I spend a lot of time re-writing text cut and pasted from other internet sites, I've always been leary about copying Fleischer for its own sake...it's basically plagiarism and while it seems OK when no other data is available - ETHICS wise, it's better to gradually replace Fleischer with original text - rather than the other way around. What fun is a data site when no one is looking up and summarizing the data and is just blindly COPYING other sources?

I note that the entire article follows the standard Supermanica format of being in the present tense.  Yet the portion relating the infant Superman's escapade takes place in the past, relative to the framing portion of the adult Superman telling his story to Doctor Kearns.  Would it make sense to reword that portion into the past tense? -- [[User:Macduff|Macduff]] 19:02, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

[edit] TGSB

Instead of "replacing" researched entries with plagiarism of TGSB, I suggest adding TGSB text if something is missing. I spent a lot of time over many hundreds of original entries here and don't think that copies of someone else's copyright text is always an improvement. Case in point, this entry, where my entry had more details.

It would be nice to focus on original writing, the internet is filled with copied and ripped off text. It would also be nice to have new entries added to the database, rather than "replacing" good text with copied text.

While I agree with you on some of this--and I have been, for the most part, writing new entries rather than posting Fleisher's material since the reprint was announced last year--I also thought that the mission of this site was to put the TGSB text online and expand on it. I just figured that we should include the TGSB articles where available. I am sorry that I stepped on your toes.

The stated goal on the About page is
The goal of Supermanica is to incorporate, update, and expand the existing Fleisher material to cover the complete history of Superman from 1938 to 1986.
to my mind, that does not mean that the text of TGSB is sacrosanct, but that it is a good starting point and the perfect content with which to create the template of an otherwise non-existent article. Doctor, you make a subtle distinction and I see how that impression can be gleaned from the text. Perhaps an update of the About page is in order. --Macduff 18:48, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Verb Tenses

I note that the entire article follows the standard Supermanica format of being in the present tense. Yet the portion relating the infant Superman's escapade takes place in the past, relative to the framing portion of the adult Superman telling his story to Doctor Kearns. Would it make sense to reword that portion into the past tense? -- Macduff 19:02, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
