An alternate identity employed by Lex Luthor in November-December 1941, when he and his henchmen use blinding lights to kidnap Senator Billingsley and other prominent men. When they try to capture Lois Lane and Clark Kent because "The Light" considered them dangerous Superman knocks their captors out.

Later, outside of the Gobernor's Mansion, Superman recognizes one of the guards as one of the suspicious characters he had seen before and forces him to blurt out the location of "The Light"'s hideout. Arriving there, a "vari-colored" beam immobilizes and hypnotizes him, while "The Light" commands the super-hero to destroy "any military materials that may be used against [him]". Driving by, Lois spots the Man of Tomorrow and clears his head of the evil influence. Superman then returns to the hideout and destroys the hypnotizing control board. Luthor reveals himsels and tries to detonate a bomb but Superman wedges himself between the detonation plunger and the floor. Then, while he is knocking out Luthor's hirelings, the evil mastermind manages to escape (S No. 13/1).
