Snagriff
A winged dinosaur-like creature of the planet Krypton which, many years ago, prior to Krypton’s destruction, was injected by the scientist Jor-El with an experimental life-prolonging serum and then catapulted into outer-space exile on Koron, a natural satellite of Krypton, after it had been discovered that an unwanted side effect of the as yet unperfected serum had been to transform the snagriff into a metallic monster with a voracious appetite for minerals and metals.
Hurled violently from its orbit soon afterward by the cataclysmic explosion that destroyed Krypton, Koron careens wildly through space, passing ultimately within a short distance of the planet Earth, thus enabling the snagriff to leap onto the Earth, where, like any native of Krypton, it acquired awesome super-powers identical to Superman’s!
In September-October 1952, the super-powered snagriff runs amok on its newly adopted planet, voraciously consuming an ocean liner, gold bullion from the Federal Gold Reserve, and tons of scrap metal, and leaving havoc and destruction in its wake, until finally, after having swallowed six atomic bombs, it is carried high into the air by Superman, where the heat of the creature’s body detonates the A-bombs, utterly destroying it (S No. 78/1: “The Beast from Krypton!â€).
