A worker at an experimental-aircraft company who, having stolen a giant dirigible from his place of employment, has teamed up with a pair of unscrupulous Indian mahouts to use the dirigible and a pair of stolen zoo elephants to commit a series of spectacular crimes, as when the villains lower the elephants from the dirigible by winch into the midst of a lavish fashion show, so that, as the panic-stricken crowds flee the madly charging elephants, they can steal the jewel-studded antique royal gowns on display there. Crawley and his cohorts are apprehended by Superman in July-August 1947 (S No. 47/2: "Susie Reforms!").
