Alan Scott, engineer and adventurer, became the Green Lantern of Earth-2 when he discovered an ancient Chinese lantern and made a ring from its metal. The powers of this ring were vast, its only weakness was an ineffectiveness against wood and related vegetable matter, a drawback when battling Solomon Grundy of Earth-2 who was composed of plant material.
