Barney Vellum
A Metropolis bookbinder whose hobby is binding books with odd materials appropriate to their contents, such as a horsehide binding for a book titled The Jockey and a binding of skunk skin for Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. When some acquaintances attempt to humiliate Vellum by ordering books bound in unobtainable materials, such as material from Atlantis for a book on The Lost Continent, Superman helps him obtain them, and Vellum gratefully returns the favor by binding Lois Lane's scrapbook of Superman photos, intended as a surprise gift for Superman, in the colorful material of Superman's cape (WF No. 29, Jul/Aug 1947: "The Books That Couldn't be Bound!").
