Chandu
A "rare giant gorilla" that possesses super-vision similar to Superboy.
Superboy assists Professor Lewis Lang in capturing Chandu and exhibiting the creature in Smallville. While planning to rob the box-office of the exhibit, the ruthless criminal "Doc" Baird discovers that the ape can project x-rays and heat-rays through its eyes "each time a lightning storm strikes." After kidnapping the beast, Baird and his gang use Chandu's powers to enact a string of thefts, all under the cover of electrical storms. After learning from Prof. Lang that the gorilla had imbibed "water with a peculiar glow...like the glow of Kryptonite," Superboy breaks up the gang and confronts Chandu, only to learn that the "contaminated water Chandu drank gives him kryptonite powered rays" which weaken the Boy of Steel. After a series of battles, Superboy constructs a giant battery to "drain the thunderclouds of all their excess electricity," enabling him to subdue the powerful primate with a simple jiu-jitsu move (Adv No. 219, Dec 1955: "The Gorilla with Super-Eyes!").
