Although Superman 2965/66's tales occured in the 30th Century, there is no mention of the Legion of Super Heroes who also present in the 30th century.  Nor was future Superman 2965/66 mentioned in any of their Adventure Comics stories.  It has been speculated by theorists that guiding light, Mort Wesinger's breach of continuity, was to be a showcase for a new series feature Superman 2965/66 if the Legion had faltered due to the death of series artist, John Forte.  Adding to the confusion was the fact that all of the Superman 2965/66 stoeies were illustrated by Curt Swan and inked by George Klein who were also chronicling the Legion of Super Heroes at the same time.  Needless to say, Superman 2965/66 is not an imaginary story, parallel world, hoax or dream but an eddy in the timestream oc classic Superman mythos.
