The 100
A villainous crime organization centered in Metropolis and involved in all manners of vice, dirty money, and killing. The 100 kills policeman Phil Forrest and forever earns the emnity of his daughter Rose and the Thorn (SGLL No. 105, Oct 1970: "Night of the Thorn, Day of the Rose!"). The 100 battles Superman in SGLL No. 114, Sep 1971: "The Foe of 100 Faces!", SGLL No. 123, Jun 1972: "The Ten Deadly Divisions of The 100" (and others), uses other criminal assets like Batman's adversary Poison Ivy (SGLL No. 115, Oct 1971: "The Computer Crooks!"; SGLL No. 116, Nov 1971: "Computed to Kill!"), and carries out operations on the rival criminals of Intergang and Skull. The 100 turns out to be larger and more insidious than first suspected, including having multiple specialized branches of operatives and specific interests in elected political office. The tentacles of their operation are so great that Lucy Lane is recruited by the government to infiltrate the organization, a mission so dangerous that she must stage her own death (SGLL No. 120, Mar 1972: "Who Killed Lucy Lane?"; SPJO No. 160, Oct 1973: "The Shadow from the Grave!"). The 100's presence in "Suicide Slum" eventually comes to the attention of the Metropolis hero Black Lightning.
Beginning in April 1977, (BL No. 1: "Black Lightning!") the 100 becomes the primary target of Black Lightning's vigiliantism in Metropolis. He eventually learns that the 100's secret hideout is located beneath the Metropolis Superman Museum, and in August-September 1979, Black Lightning joins spurned 100 leader Tobias Whale, infiltrating the secret hideout beneath the museum. While this places the 100 on the run, Black Lightning is subsequently knocked unconscious and betrayed by Whale. He awakens to find himself alone in the Metropolis Superman Museum, which is now surrounded by police. Thinking quickly, he narrowly escapes by removing the clothes from a mannequin of WGBS anchor Clark Kent, and slips out of the building as Professor Jefferson Pierce.
