As well as to stay long enough to apprehend the ruthless Julian Fyffe, next in line after Pike to the Edgestream barony, and his henchman Bascomb, manager of the Fyffe Coal Mines, both of whom were together responsible for the original kidnapping of the infant heir many years ago. Additionally, Fyffe and Bascomb had been, since Clark Kent's arrival in England, making repeated attempts on his life in an effort to enable Julian Fyffe to accede to the barony (Act No. 106, Mar 1947: "His Lordship, Clark Kent!").
