The pampered playboy son of Matt Carson, a wealthy old sea captain and seasoned adventurer who passes away in 1939 after stipulating that Roger may inherit his sizable fortune only if he first travels around the world in a small sailing ship and successfully duplicates his own adventure-filled career.
