Iconic Superman 167 art by Curt Swan & Geo. Klein

The space villain who shrunk cities including the city of Kandor from Krypton. After their first duel in space, Superman rescues the bottle city but was unable to restore it to normal size.

Brainiac once teamed with Lex Luthor in an atttempt to defeat Superman but they failed. It was in this tale, that Brainiac was revealed to be a computer driven robotic android. To hide his origin, Brainiac "adopted" a living son, Brainiac II (ancestor of Brainiac 5).

Brainiac later dropped his human guise and upgraded to a purer, cybernetic being - still bent on destroying Superman!
