A gigantic sculptured relief of the heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt which is carved in granite on the northeast side of Mt. Rushmore, 25 miles from Rapid City, South Dakota. Sculpted by Gutzon Borgium, who began it in 1927 and whose son completed it in 1941, it is one of America’s greatest monuments.
In January 1943, Emil Loring attempts to destroy the Mount Rushmore monument and other world-famous landmarks, but his mad scheme is thwarted by Superman (Act No. 56: "Design for Doom!"). (TGSB)
