A dedicated scientist who, years ago, shortly before the planet Krypton exploded into fragments, “began to receive strange radio signals from space” and soon found himself communicating with the brilliant Kryptonian scientist Jor-El. By following Jor-El’s detailed instructions for the building of a “matter-radio”, "an apparatus [designed) to accomplish the instantaneous transmission of matter” through space, “as if by radio”, Dunn even made a journey to Krypton, where he befriended Jor-El and his family, performed an emergency operation to save the life of the infant Superman after he had been bitten by a venomous Kryptonian “Fish-Snake,” and discussed with Jor-El the impending doom of his planet.

By October 1961, Professor Dunn’s unscrupulous assistant, Gerald Greer, has stolen Dunn’s blueprints for the matter-radio and formed an alliance with gangster Paul Pratt to use the ingenious invention for crime by committing daring robberies in Metropolis and then making instantaneous matter-radio getaways to a distant West Coast city, but Superman apprehends Greer and Pratt and takes their matter-radio equipment to his Fortress of Solitude for safekeeping (Act No. 281: “The Man Who Saved Kal-El’s Life!”).

The story is in many respects similar to Superman No. 77/1 (Jul/Aug 1952:“The Man Who Went to Krypton!”).
