The leader of a gang of criminals who have virtually seized control of the town of Gateston, extorting protection money from its merchants and using violence and terror to enforce their hold over the fear-ridden populace. Superman smashes the Bashby gang in September-October 1940 and exposes local lawyer Morton Twist as the real mastermind behind the gang's activities (S No. 6/2).
