I think they work OK, somebody like Mr Xavier who just seems to want to destroy the Earth, or Amalak who just wants to destroy Superman seem like classic villains, somebody wants gold or cash or whatever seems like a crminal, and just try to figure out which is best for any in between...--[[User:MatterEaterLad|MatterEaterLad]] 20:24, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

HD was moved from the villain category to the criminal, making me look up those categories. The defs are pretty clear. HD "has it in" for Supes and actively seeks him out. In fact, he later becomes a collector of Superboy ephemera. Criminals try to avoid the Big S.--Telle 04:02, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

That's cool, for some reason, I was operating more on the assumption that criminals want possessions and money, villains want power and dominance, but the defs in use make sense... --MatterEaterLad 09:28, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

So, should these categories be mutually exclusive, i.e, rare or impossible to be a criminal and a villain?--MatterEaterLad 13:36, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

That's a good question. They do seem to be exclusive of each other. It's hard to define: maybe there should be another category called Supervillain because the addition of a costume or powers (not counting early Luthor) is sometimes the final deciding factor. Can't remember who write the original categories (Super Monkey?) but they are pretty solid. Sometimes I'd like to use both myself and it wasn't until you changed this entry that I ever looked. There may be entries that already use both because of my ignorance. :) --Telle 17:36, 4 September 2006 (EDT)
