In 1971, Superman consulted the wizard to see if he could remove his vulnerability to magic.  However upon arrival on Earth-2, the planet was threatened by aliens and defeating them required that Dr. Fate cast a spell on Superman that allowed him to fight them.  Since that likely would not have been an option if he was invulnerable to magic, Superman decided to decline Fate's treatment.
