Lyman is superintendent of the State Orphanage that forces the orphaned children, including Frankie Dennis, to work. Frankie eventually runs away and meets Clark Kent. Kent and Lois Lane get closer to investigate, but Lyman threatens the children to not say anything.
When discovered beating a child when Lois returned later, Lyman sets the orphanage on fire and tries to run away to South America (S No. 3/1, Dec 1939: "The Orphanage Adventure").
